A LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION

What is a Letter of Recommendation? A Letter of Recommendation is a letter written by someone who can recommend an individual’s work or academic qualifications and skills. They discuss the qualities and capabilities that make the candidate a good fit for a given position.

In 2 Corinthians, chapter 3, Paul addresses the Corinthians church. Some false teachers had started carrying forged letters of recommendation to increase their authority. Paul tells them that he doesn’t need no such letter from them. He tells them that the only letter he needed was them, themselves. He goes on to say, that he can see the change in their hearts and that they are a letter from Jesus Christ.

As Christians we don’t need to advertise that we are Christians. We don’t need a Letter of Recommendation from each church we are a member of to validate who we are. Our Letter of Recommendation of Jesus, is not written on a letterhead with pen and ink. Our validation, is from the Spirit of the Living God, and is in our heart.

When we gave our lives to Christ, the process of conversion wasn’t one for which any human minister could take credit for, it was the work of God’s Spirit. We did not become believers in Christ by following or using a specific technique. Our conversion was a result of God placing His Spirit in our heart, which caused a Spiritual heart transformation. Can Jesus do it? Oh yes He can!

As Christians, people should know who we are and whose we, are by our walk. Your walk in Christ is proof and is your Letter of Recommendation. If you want to know if someone’s walk with God is authentic, look for these signs: 1) Look for their Motivation, 2) Look for their Patterns, and 3) Look for their “FRUIT”.

Motivation: When we are trying to tell if someone is a Christian or not, look for their motivation. You cannot always tell what someone’s motive is right away, but give it enough time, and people will show you why they are doing what they are doing.

Pattern: Do they practice what they preach or are they just doing lip service? Do they consistently show the deeds of the “flesh” or show the fruit of the Spirit? Are they living like a person headed to Heaven or like a person headed to Hell?

Their Fruit: There are nine Fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Usually, when people get in public and around other people, they will act or behave the way they want people to perceive them. Then when they are in private, when no one can see them, they will act just like the person they really are. This fruit shows itself when no one else is looking. It shows itself when we are all alone. This one fruit is “Self-control”. Self-control refers to the ability to reject sinful things and to walk away from the deeds of the flesh when you are all alone. It describes the inner constitution that honors God when no one else is looking.

If someone is a child of God, they truly understand that the only way for them to enter Heaven is for God to do everything. There is no place for MMI, that is Me, Myself and I. MMI, has no place in the Christian life, because there is no way that you can get credit for your own salvation. God has to call us. God has to justify us. God had to come and die for us. God lives inside of us. God gives us His nature. God gives us His Spirit. It is GOD, GOD, GOD, and God alone.

When we live our lives for Christ, we are a walking Letter of Recommendation.
