As believers of Christ, we have something within us. No, I am not talking about our organs, brain, heart, and lungs. There is someone in us and not something. It is the Holy Spirit.
Jesus promised us that after His death, was risen, and ascension to heaven, that God would send His Spirit to live within us. "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him, but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be with you." (John 14:17)
You see, it's an "Inside Job," and it's about the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit. Who is the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost is the third person of the Trinity, a Triune God manifested as God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, each entity itself being God.
God is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. All the divine attributes assigned to the Father and the Son are equally assigned to the Holy Spirit. When you became born again, by believing and accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, God began residing in you, in the person of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has intellect, emotions, and will. Like I said before, "it's an "Inside Job."
The Holy Spirit is given to us in order for us to produce God's character. The Holy Spirit will build in us the Fruit of the Spirit, which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Only God, through His Spirit can produce these qualities in us, thus, "it's an "Inside Job." We are told over and over again, "to walk in the Spirit." The Holy spirit empowers us to perform duties that will promote spiritual growth.
Before we became believers of Christ, the Holy Spirit convicted our hearts and revealed God's truth about how sinful we were. He revealed to us that we needed God's forgiveness and He informed us about Jesus's righteousness. We simply just needed to repent and give ourselves to Christ.
The Holy Spirit dwells within us. What does He do? He speaks in us, to us, and through us. He ministers God's truth to us. He comforts us, and provides us with good health and strength. He gives us gifts. He provides us with directions and guidance. He is the Giver of life and He gives life. He invites us to walk with Him. He groans, prays, and intercedes for us. He helps us in our weakness. He produces fruit in our lives. He gives us the power to mortify the deeds of the flesh. He ministers to us love. He quicken this feeble mortal body. He provides power for signs, wonders, and preaching. He reveals to us what God has given us. He washes, sanctifies, purifies, and justifies. He seals us. He changes us into the image of Christ. He gives us access to the Father. He provides us the power to be witnesses. He gives us spiritual sight. He restrains us. He convicts the world. He will be the One to mark us present in heaven.
The short of it, He is our Helper, Counselor, Encourager, Comforter, and Guide. The Holy Spirit takes up permanent residence in every believers' heart. Jesus gave us the Spirit as a "compensation" or "gift" for His absence, to perform the functions toward us which He would have done if He was here.
The Holy Spirit helps us to understand God's Word. He reveals to us the wholeness of God through worship, doctrine, and Christian living. He is our Guide, going before us, leading the way, removing obstacles, and making things plain and clearer. He leads us in the way that we should go, in all things spiritual. He reveals to us that Jesus is who He said He is, "But when the Helper comes, who I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me." (John 15:26)
The Spirit convinces us of Christ's deity and incarnation, His being the Messiah, His suffering and death, His resurrection and ascension, His exaltation at the right hand of God our Father, and His role as the Judge of us all.
It's is definitely an 'Inside Job" alright. I praise God for His Spirit forever dwelling within me. I know that He will never leave me nor forsake me, and what a great comfort, joy, and reassurance. Let's praise and offer God our sincere thanks for such a wonderful and priceless gift. Thank you Father for your presence and work in my life through your Spirit.
