CHOICES

Choices! Choices! Choices! We all have to make them, and there are so many to make. But how do we know if we are making the right choices? Is there a rule of thumb to go by?

Choices! Choices! Choices! Some of us make good choices and some make bad choices. We applaud ourselves for making the good ones and we beat-up on ourselves for the poor ones.

What is the meaning of the word choice? Choice is the act of making a selection or making a decision when faced with two or more possibilities. Choice suggests the opportunity or privilege of choosing freely. Freedom of choice option implies a power to choose that is specially granted or guaranteed.

Choices will play a major role in our life. Whether we chose the right choice or wrong one, will affect the outcome of our life in the future.

Some people never consider making a choice in life. They are just "winging it." Some are just going with the flow and whatever their life will be, it will just work out that way. They are letting life just happens. But life doesn't just happens. Our life is defined by the choices we make. Not making a choice is still a choice.

Life indeed, is a series of choices. We make choices about our higher education. We make choices about who we wish to date and/or marry. We make choices about what clothes we wish to wear. We make choices about where we want to vacation. We make choices about who we will entertain and how to decorate our homes. We make choices about our careers and the jobs we will accept. We make choices to save money and how to spend money. We make choices to attend church or not. Some of us have to make life or death decisions, by choice.

Then there are no right or wrong choices. Sometimes either choice can teach you a great life lesson. There are so many choices to make, so how do we chose one choice over another? The best possible choice is the one that has the best outcome.

But what does the Bible say about choices? There are over 100 Bible verses that talks about choices. One of the most life altering choices you will ever make is accepting Jesus as your personal Savior. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16). "Because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be save" (Romans 10:9).

This is without question, the most important choice anyone can make. For anyone who decides to accept or reject Jesus, have literally decided their eternal destination. This a powerful choice, but it's your choice. Only you can choose between life and death, between blessings and curses.

The Bible tells us that God has great plans for the lives of His children. "Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life..." (Deuteronomy 30:19).

God is giving us a choice. One choice is the path to life and the other choice is the path to death. One path brings you to Jesus, the other path leads you directly to God's enemy. One path leads to light, and the other path is filled with darkness. Each choice is like standing in front of a door. Each door opens a different and opposite pathway. Which door will you choose?

"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths" (Proverbs 3:5-6).
