COMBO PACKAGES

I wanted a new boombox, but just not any kind of boombox. I wanted a boombox that would play cassette tapes, CDs, and record music. It had to meet all three requirements. Nothing else would be acceptable. So I gave the mission to my son. It took three months in the making, but my package finally arrived. My son opened the box, and pulled the boombox out, and had me carefully examine it, because he knew that if the requirements were not met, it would have to be returned.

A combo package is to bundle something. It’s packaged and designed, as a package.

There are all kinds of combination packages:

  • Combo television: a television with either a VCR or a DVD player built into a single unit.

  • Combo Drive: a type of optical drive that can read CDs and DVDs.

  • Combo organ: a type of portable electronic organ popular in the 1960s.

  • Combo Washer and Dryer: a combination in a single cabinet of a washing machine and a clothes dryer.

  • Combo Meal: a group of menu items offered together at a lower price then they would cost individually.

There are combination doors, combination locks, combination planes, combination plates, and many other types of combination packages.

However, there is The Ultimate Combination Package, and that is The Trinity. The Trinity is the foundation of our Christian faith.

The Godhead is a Divine Team, consisting of The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. The gospel involves three Persons; the Father, whose kingdom it is, the Son, who died on the cross, and the Holy spirit, who brings us to new birth.

Understanding the Trinity is all about understanding the relationship between each of its Persons. Each is distinct in ministry, in our Christian lives.

The Trinity presents itself, as we seek to do the will of the Father, in the knowledge that the Lord Jesus, is always with us. He is always beside us, to encourage us. The Holy Spirit is in our hearts to strengthen, and enable us, to understand, what is required of us.

Under the Great Commission it’s the same story. The Father, and the Son, sends us to be the Lord’s witnesses. They promise that the Holy Spirit will be in us, prompting us, about what to say.

The Father says, “This is what you have to do.” Then Jesus confirms it, stands by us, and walks with us. The Holy Spirit empowers us and enlightens us, to what, to say and do.

The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are distinct Persons.

The Bible says that the Father is God, (Philippians 1:2), Jesus is God (Titus 2:13), and the Holy Spirit is God (Acts 5:3-4). They are distinct Persons.

The Father sent the Son into the world (John 3:16), he cannot be the same person, as the Son. The son after He returned to the Father, sent the Holy Spirit into the world.

The Holy Spirit is distinct from the Father and the Son, the Son is not the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit is not the Father. They are different Persons, not three different ways of looking at God.

We may not fully understand everything about the Trinity. We just need to know as a Christian, they are The COMBO Package. They are three real Persons, not three roles God plays.

Each Person is fully God. They are the COMBO Package! This doesn’t mean that each Person is “one-third” of God.

The Trinity doesn’t divide God into pieces. The Bible clearly tells us that all three Persons are one-hundred percent God.

Matthew 28:19, clearly brings it together, “Make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Now, that’s a COMBO PACKAGE!
