"In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters." In these simple, first three verses of Genesis 1, we learn that God is the Creator of all things. As the Creator, God, Himself, is not created, He is before ALL things and He is the source of ALL things. He created ALL things out of nothing, and He knows ALL things. He is ever present, everywhere at ALL times. He is the eternally Existent ONE, thereby making Him self-existing and self-sufficient.
God is truly awesome, indescribable and totally magnificent. God's awesomeness is displayed in His creations everyday. He ensures that the sun rises every morning and sets in the evening. He provides gravity to keep us on the earth. His universe expands beyond the strongest telescope and contains 200 billion to two trillion galaxies. The sun is just one star in the Milky Way galaxy, that contains trillions of stars, along with nearly uncountable numbers of planets, moons, asteroids, comets and clouds of dust and gas, all swirling in the vast space.
"He spreads out the northern skies over empty space; he suspends the earth
over nothing. He wraps up the waters in his clouds, yet the clouds do not
burst under their weight. He covers the face of the full moon, spreading his
clouds over it. He marks out the horizon on the face of the waters for a
boundary between light and darkness. The pillars of the heavens quake,
aghast at his rebuke." (Job 27: 7-11)
At the end of God's creation story, God saw what He made, and "saw that it was good." God is not a mediocre God. His works displays His awesomeness.
Let's not forget the creation of God's masterpiece, "Mankind." "Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being" (Genesis 2:7). The human body is the collection of tissues, organs, and systems that makes up the human being. The human body is made up of many parts. Each part of the body has a specific function. The body's outermost parts are skin, hair, and nail. The parts of the head is eye, ear, nose, mouth, tongue, and teeth. Then there are the limbs: arms, legs, hands, feet, and knees. The structures that hold up the body and make it move are bones and muscles. The internal organs are the brain, heart, lungs, stomach, kidneys, intestines, liver, pancreas, and glands. The body's system consists of the cardiovascular system, circulatory system, nervous system, digestive system, endocrine system, immune system, lymphatic system, reproductive system, muscular system, respiratory system, skeletal system, and urinary system. Yes, we are truly God's masterpiece, all right. God doesn't take short-cuts. The human body is amazing and complicated.
God reveals Himself to us because He wanted to be known. But do we really know God, completely? God revealed His name to Moses because He was revealing something very important about Himself. "Moses said to God, "Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, "The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they ask me, 'What is his name?' Then what shall I tell them?" God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." This is what you are to say to the Israelites: "I AM has sent me to you." (Exodus3:13). His name is YHWH. This name, I AM WHO I AM.
God spoke to Job out of the storm, to remind Job of His awesomeness, in Job 38. God reminded Job of who He was. God asked Job, where were him when He laid the earth's foundation. It was God who marked off its dimensions, stretched out a measuring line across it, set its footings, and laid its cornerstone while the morning stars singing together and all the angels shouted for joy. It was God we shut up the sea behind doors when it burst forth from the womb. God who made the clouds its garment and wrapped it in thick darkness, then fixed limits for it and set it doors and bars in place, then said, "this far you may come and no farther." It is God who gives the orders to the morning and shows the dawn its place, that it might take the earth by the edges and shake the wicked out of it. It was God that shaped the earth like clay and place it under a seal and allows it features to stand out. God, who have traveled to the springs of the sea and walked in the recesses of the deep. Who sees the gates of death and the gates of the deepest darkness. Only God can comprehend the vast expanses of the earth, where light comes from, and knows where they live. It is God who has made the storehouses for the snow and the hail, which He reserves for times of trouble. It is God who cuts the channel for the torrents of rain and a path for the thunderstorm. He waters lands where no one lives, and uninhabited desert to satisfy a desolate wasteland and make it sprout with grass. It is only God that knows the laws of heaven and set up His dominion over the earth.
In the New Testament, He revealed Himself as the WORD, "In the beginning the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God" (John 1:1). The WORD became flesh! This "WORD" is none other than Jesus Christ. God revealed Himself through Jesus Christ. The Creator, became His own creation, to save mankind.
We cannot humanly capture God's awesomeness nor His powers. Whatever you may be thinking, envisioning, or imagining, trust me, you have just insulted God, because He is far more bigger and so much better than you could ever visualized.
