Like Advertisers are targeting every imaginable age division, so are the Churches these days are trying to reach every imaginable age group. From Silent Generation who are also know as the Builders, to the Busters aka Generation X, to Boomers aka Millennials and Generation Y.
From the Builders Generation who literarily and metaphorically built this nation after the austerity years post depression and World War 2, to the Baby Boomers who redefined the cultural landscape, to Generation X, who ushered in new technologies and work styles, and now to Generations Y and Z who in this 21st Century are redefining life stages and lifestyles.
We have gone from radio to black and white TV, to color TV, now to internet TV. From long-term savers to lifestyle debt. Psalm 145:4 says, “One generation shall praise Your works to another, And shall declare Your mighty acts." It is the Biblical duty of every generation of Christians, to see to it that the next generation hears about the mighty acts of God. God does not drop down a new Bible from heaven on each generation. He intends for us, the older generation to teach the new generation about God. He wants the new generation to read and think about him. He want them to trust and obey Him. He wants them to rejoice over Him and about Him. He wants a true personal relationship from each new generation. Remember the Spirit of God comes down vertically and the truth of God is imparted horizontally.
We must educate our children and grandchildren about God. When we do not introduce our children and grandchildren to God, they will become unemotional, and indifferent about Him. Thus, look at the state of the world today. Anythings goes and the Spirit of Morality is dissipating. Our young people would rather be in a club than in church.
The bible says, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” How do we impress faith on our children? It starts with you; and your love for God. It starts in your home and not at church. What’s going to impress your children is how you live your life, and your relationship with God. You must talk about Him in your home, in your car, when you lie down and when you get up. The home is the primary place where faith begins, lives, is expressed, and nurtured. The church just reinforced the relationship. Faith is not something that is outsourced, it is a relationship with Christ that must be lived-out.
In the Bible, each generation told the stories of how God brought them over. If our older generation celebrated God’s fame and goodness toward them, and He has allowed us to strive in His goodness, then what was true back then, is still true today. God never changes, styles changes, time changes, people change, but God will always be the same. We can’t live without Jesus, and neither can our future generation.
