There are numerous honor awards given to people during their lifetime. Honor awards are given in various fields, including arts and entertainment, sports and hobbies, the humanities, science and technology, business and service to society. These awards may be given by a government agency, an association, a company, or a magazine.
People are honored for their performance in music, athletic, academic, and professional arenas. Some are honored for their exceptional bravery and intelligence.
If honor is given to only the excellent achievers, how on earth could regular people like you and I, can be considered honorable? Well, I am glad that you asked that question.
When we live a life that honors God, that’s honorable. Every faithful follower of Jesus Christ will receive the best gift of all, eternal life. That’s salvation, and salvation is free. It can’t be earned. There’s more! Matthew 6:20 states, “But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal…” From Jesus’ sermon, it is clear there is a “reward in heaven” waiting for each of us who is saved. There are “treasures in heaven” for each of us, as well. What did you say? Yes, that is what I said and the bible confirms it. God has rewards waiting for us, and much of this sermon from Jesus is an admonition for us not to forsake our heavenly rewards by seeking worldly rewards and acknowledgements.
No, maybe you and I will probably never receive an Academy Award, a Nobel Prize, a Pulitzer Prize, a Golden Globe Award, a Grammy Award, nor an Oscar, but I do know that we will have a reward and treasures in heaven. Some of us may even receive a crown.
Thank you Heavenly Father for honoring someone like me! His reply, “The Honor is all Mine, my child”!
