Joy and pain. Sunshine and rain. Joy and pain, what a combination. When in times of joy, everything seems so bright. Sometimes amid the hustle and bustle of life, we temporarily forfeit the joy of Christ as we wrestle with our daily living.
Every human alive has dealt with these two emotions, joy, and pain. What is joy? Joy is a feeling of great pleasure and happiness, according to the Oxford dictionary. Galatians 5:22-23 gives us a list of the fruits of the spirit and joy is listed there as one of the products of the Holy Spirit, living and abiding within us.
God alone can produce true joy and it is God who can give us the ability to respond to life’s difficulties. We will all have to face sorrow, pain, and grief. We will all have trials and troubles. Trials will beset our every step. We are bowed down with trouble, sadness, pain, and sorrow and our eyes become wet with tears.
I praise our Heavenly Father, that He comforts us through every trial, trouble, sorrow, and pain. God through His great mercy is always there to help us get through anything and everything.
Some of us are sick and in distress. Some of us have thoughts that are full of negativity and bitterness and anxiety. God can console you. He can provide you with comfort, peace, and joy. Only God can turn those frowns upside down, into smiles.
2 Corinthians 1:3 says, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”
Joy and pain, two sentiments that are totally opposite from each other, and yet, it appears that they go hand in hand. One moment you are in total bliss filled with joy and the next moment, you feel nothing but pain. We all have experienced some pain in our lives, whether emotionally or physically. No, two people, pain is alike, but as sure as we are alive, we all will have to walk this path.
God tells us that there is a purpose for our pain. We can’t understand its purpose while we are going through the pain, but mama would say, “hindsight is 20/20.”
With God’s help, we can press on knowing that God loves us and is always with us. God wants to use our hurt and pain to bring Him glory. The Bible is full of scriptures to help us understand the purpose of our pain and will encourage us on how to find joy in the midst of our suffering.
Joy and pain. We rejoice sometimes and we weep sometimes. At times it may appear that we are doing both simultaneously because life is bitter and sweet, full of joy and yet there is so much pain.
As a child of God, He has equipped us for the joyful days and the painful days. In our weakness and pain, we are carried by the joy in the Lord. He is our strength and our salvation.
Jesus is our Redeemer and our pain and our joy are meaningful because of Him. You can press your pain into His joy and let it ignite your joy into a joyful fire and this will save you from the depths of your pain.
