LOGOS

Updated: Apr 15, 2023

God's Word, the Bible, is referred to in Greek as "logos." Logos is the Greek word for, "word." It is where we get the word "logic" from. Logos is when we used cold arguments - like data, statistic, or common sense - to convince people of something, rather than trying to appeal to an audience's emotions.

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it." (John 1:1-5).

John 1:14 states, "The Word was made flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth."

Jesus is the Word or Logos, because "in the beginning was the Word."

Jesus is eternal and is God, and "all things were created by Him."

Jesus came and lived among us, because of His sacrificial death, "He is the Giver

of Life."

Jesus is the Word of God. He is Logos. Jesus, when He came to earth was the Incarnation of God's Word, meaning what Jesus did, and what God said was the same. As the Incarnation of God's Word, Jesus' actions, and God's message are identical. Jesus' life is the Word of God. Jesus' life is the simple visual display of God's Word. Jesus is the Word of God that came down from heaven to earth, in the flesh.

Logos is the divine power of God. It is His divine command. The Bible reminds us that God's actions are His Word. His Word is powerful, because they create action. In Genesis God spoke the universe into existence, "And God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light." God's Word controls everything. Without exception! When God said, "...Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done" (Genesis 8:21). You can bet on that. What God says is what will happen, because everything is dependent on the Word of God.

Jesus is the reason why... The reason why, what? He is the reason why all things are as they are. He is the reason why everything exists. He is the reason why everything happens. The creation of all existence was made by Him. His presence among us as a human being is the most important event in the history of the universe.

God himself, in the Incarnation, chose to leave His regal throne in heaven. He got down at eye-level with man. On the cross, Jesus Himself prayed a psalm of lament, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" (Matthew 27:46). In the Incarnation, He experienced what it's like to be tired, scorned, and discouraged. He knows what it is like to hurt, to be mistreated, spitted upon, and bleed. Logos is aware of ALL things including what we experience in this life, because the Word has feelings too. He is the One who wired us with our emotions.

Logos asked Isaiah some rhetorical questions in reference to who He is. He asked, "To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal? says the Holy One. Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these?" (Isaiah 40:25-26b). The response, "He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing." Then He says to Isaiah, "Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, The Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint" (Isaiah 40:28-31).

The Person of God is logos. He is El Olam - the Everlasting God. He will always be the Everlasting God, without Beginning or End. He is the Creator of the ends of the earth. He created the limits, the boundaries of the earth and everything in between. God is incapable of fatigue and exhaustion - "He never grow tired." Neither does "He grow weary." He never gets tired of loving, caring, delivering, saving, healing, restoring, preserving, protecting, providing for the world. For He does it by the power of His Word.

The uncreated CREATOR, is Logos. He existed before all things.
