NEVERTHELESS

Updated: Mar 30, 2023

Nevertheless means, in spite of. Nevertheless is an underused word and its power is underestimated. Nevertheless, places all the power into the hands of God. With this one word, we can change the course of our entire life. The word "nevertheless" appears in the bible over 200 times.

Paul was sent to Rome as a prisoner to make his appeal to Caesar. He was placed on a ship, along with some other prisoners. The ship was scheduled to make several stops along the Turkish coast. They made a temporary stop at Sidon and when they left Sidon, they encountered some strong winds that made it difficult to keep the ship on course. Paul spoke to the ship's officers and warned them there will be trouble ahead. "Nevertheless," the officers in charge of the prisoners listened to the ship's captain instead of taking heed to Paul's warning. So they set sail and suddenly the weather changed. They were out in the Mediterranean Sea being driven westward from the island of Crete. It looked like they would wreck on the island of Claudia. They had to let the wind take the ship. They threw all the cargo overboard to lighten the ship's load.

After fourteen days of wind and waves, they felt this was it. They wouldn't come out of this storm alive. However, an angel of the Lord had appeared to Paul and said, "...Don't be afraid, Paul - for you will surely stand trial before Caesar. What's more, God has granted your request and will save the lives of all those sailing with you" (Acts 27:24). Paul proceeded to tell them to keep up their courage, because he had faith in God and things will happen just as God told him. "Nevertheless, we must run aground on some island" (Acts 27:26). Nevertheless, Paul was determined to believe the faithfulness of God, the promises of God, and God proved Himself to be faithful.

The power of "nevertheless" can change any situation or problem from a negative one, to a positive one. There are so many more biblical examples of how the Power of "NEVERTHELESS" has been harnessed:

Abraham would say, "When I had to leave my homeland and didn't know where to go, but nevertheless."

Daniel said, "Nevertheless I will read the writing to the king, and make known the interpretation."

Noah would say, "When no one would listen to me, but nevertheless."

Nehemiah said, "Nevertheless in your manifold mercies you did not make a full end of them, nor forsake them; for you are a gracious and merciful God."

Jeremiah would say, "When my own family turned against me, but nevertheless."

Deborah said, "I will surely go with you: nevertheless, the journey that you take shall not be for your honor."

Jonah would say, "When I don't want to do it, but nevertheless."

Job said, "I have no hope. 'Nevertheless,' I will maintain my ways before him."

Joseph would say, "When I was mistreated and wrongly accused, but nevertheless."

Joshua said, "Nevertheless, my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt; but I wholly followed the LORD my God."

David would say, "When everything goes against common sense and I was running for my life, but nevertheless."

Jesus said, "Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will but yours, be done." AND "Nevertheless, I tell you, after this you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of the sky."

So how would you apply the power of "Nevertheless" in your life? If your marriage is not working out the way you planned it, but "nevertheless" - I will trust God with my future. If your health is not improving although you have constantly fasted and prayed about it, but "nevertheless" - I will serve God with all my heart and soul. Maybe you are all alone and lonely, but "nevertheless" - you are never alone because Jesus is always with you. Maybe someone has really hurt you badly, but "nevertheless" - God will give you forgiving power and vengeance belongs to the Lord. Your life has turned out disastrously, but "nevertheless" - your future is secure and is being orchestrated by Jesus. Maybe you are in the midst of a crisis, " nevertheless" - God has all power in His hands and nothing is impossible with God.

The power of "nevertheless" can change anything and everything. The Power of "nevertheless" simply means that you have placed ALL of your trust in the Lord, but "nevertheless" if He doesn't do what you desire of Him, it was not in His will for you. God is a God that we can always count on. He is a God that you can always trust.

God always want what is best for us. He is always on our side. He is worthy of all our trust. He has proven Himself to us, over and over again. God always wants to help you. Trusting in God is a matter of your personal faith. When you are afraid, put your trust in God. In times of adversity, trust in God at all times, because operating by faith in the face of adversity is a Fruit of the Spirit.

No matter what you are going through, what you are dealing with, what oppositions you are facing, in order to have peace, you will need to develop a "nevertheless" attitude about it in order to receive the peace of Jesus. In other words, "nevertheless" is all about completely trusting God. It's about letting go, and letting God. There will come a point in your life where you have to make a decision whether you are going to trust God, or man, or yourself. If God brings you to it, He can bring you through it. Believe me, that "nevertheless" moment, issue, or situation, is not to harm you, but to make you better. No matter what, trust God. Only God can take what you think is a negative "nevertheless" and turn it into a positive one.
