PEACE!

Holding up the index finger and the middle finger, represents or symbolizes the peace sign. The "V" sign, also known as the peace sign is also known as the victory sign. The hippies used the sign back in the 60's and early 70's. The "V" sign, known as the peace sign is used around the world.

The word "peace" is mentioned in the King James Bible 329 times. It was first mentioned in Genesis 15:15, "And thou shalt go to thy fathers in peace; thou shalt be buried in a good old age."

Peace is a state of tranquility, quiet, and harmony. It is the absence of violence. There are different terms derived from peace: at peace, breach of the peace, hold one's peace, peacebreaker, peacebuilding, Peace Corps, peacemonger, peacenik, and peace offering.

The Hebrew word for peace is "shalom." According to Strong's concordance, shalom means completeness, soundness, and welfare. It comes from the root word shalam (shaw-lame') which means to make amends or to make whole or complete.

What is "Peace" in the Bible? The peace of God is different from the peace of the world. Biblical peace is more than a state of tranquility. It is more than the absence of violence. Jesus is the symbol of peace and He is our peace with God. "And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:7) "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder and his name shall be called Wonder, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace..." (Isaiah 9:6)

Biblical peace is not something that we can get on our own. It is a fruit of the Spirit. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness" (Galatians 5:22). God is the source of all peace. His name is Peace, Yahweh Shalom, which means the Lord Is Peace. Jesus is the Prince of Peace and only He can give peace.

Let me share a story a friend sent me when my late husband was ill.

There is a story told about a King, who requested this artist

to paint him a picture of peace. The artist painted a painting

of a beautiful rainbow. A crystal waterfall flowing with relaxing

sounds and a man fishing out in a boat. He took the painting

to the King and the King looked at the painting and shook his

head and said, "That's not peace!"

The artist then did another painting of a family at the dinner

table. They were laughing and rejoicing and relaxing. The

artist once again took the painting to the King. The King said,

"No that's not peace either."

The artist became very frustrated and for two weeks he couldn't

think of anything. Then as he sat on the ground in the park, he

looked up and saw this bird on a branch, asleep, at peace, on a tree.

He painted that scene, but he added to the painting, behind the bird,

a great storm. Lightening was flashing, thunder was roaring, and

a very hard downpour of rain was falling. The painting displayed

a very severe tornado raging behind the bird, on a branch, asleep,

at peace, on a tree.

The artist took this painting to the King. The King said, " Now that's

peace!"

Even though chaos is going on in our lives and in the world, know this, God gives us peace, even when we are in the midst of a storm. How?

KNOW JESUS, KNOW PEACE!

GOT JESUS, GOT PEACE!

NO JESUS, NO PEACE!
