SIMPLY THE BEST

The definition of best, is better than all others. Best is defined as the greatest degree or highest efforts. To be the best at something means surpassing all others in excellence, achievement, or quality. Being the best means: expert, have not equal, top of the heap, head of the class, leaps and bounds and ahead of the competition. Someone whose opinion in that field is beyond question, or irrefutable. They are at the epitome in their field, compared to others.

In my opinion Dr. Martin Luther Kings, Jr. was the best Civil Rights Activist. The best fashion model is Tyra Banks. The best baseball player was Hank Aaron. The best martial artist was Bruce Lee. The best game show host was Alex Trebek. The best magician was David Copperfield. The best poet was Maya Angelou. The best football player is Jerry Rice. The best basketball player, bar none, is Michael Jordan. The best gymnast is Simone Biles.

In business a Fortune 500 company top values are teamwork, innovation, customer service, and respect. They want the best lawyers, management team, and consultants in their field. A first rate hospital wants the best medical staff and surgeons. Any sports organization wants the best coaching staff and players. Law firms wants the best attorneys to represent their firm. When looking for advice, we seek the best advice to help us make the best decision. When shopping for groceries, we seek the freshest, best produce and the best cuts of meat.

We have read so many times in the Bible about how Israel was always seeking to serve other gods. In the Book of Exodus is the story of how the Israelites escaped from Egypt after having been kept in slavery for 400 years. While wandering in the desert, the Lord appeared to Moses and made a covenant. The Lord declared that the Israelites were His chosen people and that they must obey His laws. These laws were the Ten Commandments. The first and most important commandment was that they must not worship any other god other than the Lord. "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." (Exodus 20:2 and Deuteronomy 5:6)

Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Hosea referred to Israel's worship of other gods as spiritual adultery. "How I have been grieved by their adulterous hearts, which have turned away from me, and by their eyes, which have lusted after their idols." (Ezekiel 6:9)

But why serve a god that you created, by you and for you? Our Lord and God is almighty, all loving, all powerful, and Creator of everything. It is impossible for our human minds to understand everything about God and our human vocabulary can't capture the magnificence of God.

God is simply the best! God is a Spirit and is the Creator of all things. He alone is eternal (has always existed) and is the self-existing One (He is completely self-sufficient and independent of anything else for His existence). He is loving, all knowing, all powerful, omnipresent (present everywhere at all times), unchanging, holy (without sin), just, long-suffering, gracious, righteous, and merciful. He is the ONE TRUE GOD (all other so-called gods are nothing but man-made gods, which are idols) who reveals Himself in three person: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

God is simply the best! We must magnify Him. We must praise and worship Him for who He is and what He has done for us. We must lift Him high. We must put Him first in all things and above everything. We do and we should, glorify Him by telling others about Him. We must acknowledge His works in our lives and how everything He is doing, is for a greater purpose. His greater purpose!

God is simply the best! What a mighty God we serve. He has been so gracious with all of us. He shows us grace, mercy, and love. God is holy. God is eternal, meaning He has no beginning and His existence will never end. He is immortal and infinite. God is immutable, meaning He is unchanging. He is absolutely reliable and trustworthy. God is incomparable, there is no one like Him in works or being. God is inscrutable, unfathomable, and unsearchable.

God is simply the best! God is just. He is no respecter of persons, in the sense of showing favoritism. God alone is able to meet our deepest needs. God is righteous, meaning that God cannot nor will not approve of any wrongdoings. It is because of God's righteousness that in order for our sins to be forgiven, Jesus had to experience the death on the cross. Hebrews 9:22 says, "...without the shedding of blood, there can be no forgiveness of sins." It was the shedding of Jesus' blood that required the forgiveness of sins.

So there you have it, GOD is simply the best!
