SINNER?

What is a sinner? Who is a sinner? A sinner is a person who commits sin. "Whoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law" (1 John 3:4).

When we hear the word sinner we tend to think of someone who is immoral, evil, or wicked. A sinner is someone who is separated from God. So a sinner is someone who doesn't have a relationship with God. Sinners are slaves to sin. They will face the judgement of God and they are on the road to death and destruction.

Everybody who was born in Adam is a sinner. The Bible says, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). I heard someone say that there are two kinds of sinners in this world: the sinning sinners and the moral sinners. Sin is sin, so whether you are a sinning sinner or a moral sinner, you are still a sinner.

But if you sin, you are a sinning sinner or if you think that you have not sinned or that you have sinned less, then you are a moral sinner, or a sinner who sins little. If you consider yourself holy, then you are a holy sinner.

Regardless of who you think you are, you are still a sinner. Some people think that a person is only a sinner because they have sinned and if they have not sinned, they should not be considered a sinner. I hate to rain on your parade, but there is no such thing, because whether you have sinned or not, if you were born into this world, you are a sinner. As long as you are born into the Adam's family (Adam and Eve), then you are a sinner. You did not become a sinner because you sinned, but you sinned, because you are a sinner.

I have some exciting news to share with you today. Christ's redemption has freed us from our sins. The word redeems means "to buy out." God has purchased our freedom, and we are no longer in bondage to sin.

Jesus paid the price for our release from sin and its punishment. When He died upon the cross, His death was in exchange for our life. The Bible tells us that redemption is only possible "through His blood." "Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins" (Colossians 1:13-14)

Paul lists four benefits that God secured for us when Jesus died on the cross:

1) He made us fit to be part of His kingdom and made us righteous. (2 Corinthians 5:21).

2) He has rescued us from Satan, and made us His children, (2 Corinthians 2:15).

3) He predestined us unto adoption. (Ephesians 1:5-6).

4) He forgave all our sins through His blood. (Ephesians 1:7)

So, are we sinners? Yes! Those who believe in Jesus Christ have had their sins forgiven and are granted eternal life. We have been redeemed, bought with a price and now we are forgiven and free.
