What does "surrender" means? Surrender means to relinquish possession or control over. It is an act of surrendering, submission into the possession of another; abandonment, resignation. But what does "surrender" means spiritually? It means simply to let go and let God. In others words, to let go of control and to completely trust God in every situation. It means yielding control to what we consider ours; our lives, our possessions, our time, our problems, and our rights.
To be completely honest with you, you don't control anything anyway, because God controls everything. The truth is, He is always in control. It's just that the thought has not taken place in your mind yet. When you have not submitted to Him, then you have not surrendered to Him. Surrender implies loss or defeat to those who surrender, but we are called to surrender. This is the essence of beginning the Christian life.
It's not about "what you want to do" but, "what does God want you to do." In surrendering, we give up the notion that we know what is best for us, thereby LETTING GO and trusting what God knows what is best for us. It's not what we want to do with our lives, but what does God want for you and what does He want to do with your life, your possessions, and with your future.
When you pray the Lord's Prayer, "Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven" (Matthew 6:10), this includes you, me, our life, our family, and our future. This is doing the will of God. It is only when we surrender, that God can do for us and with us, what He wants to do. When you commit to something, you are in control and you are trying to put in the efforts to make it successful. But when you surrender it to God, you have given the control to God, the ONE who can truly make it successful. Blessings come when you give up control to God. What a relief it is when you are not in control with your problems, your circumstances, your health, your life, and your trials. This is when you will find joy and peace. Even in the midst of your trials and tests.
You can only experience a truly fulfilled life when you surrender your life to God. Without surrendering, you will never live your life to its full potential. You are at your worst when you don't surrender everything to God, because you are not living God's will for your life. "Then he said to them all: 'If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it'" (Luke 9:23-24).
"Letting go and letting God" take over our lives, is an everyday surrendering to Him, and sometimes having to do it many times throughout the day. We are always confronted with problems and needs, and we should seek God and give them all to Him. We are not to hold on to some of them and give Him some, but to give them all to Him. This is not about how committed you are, but how "surrendering" you need to be. Your daily practice and prayer should be, "Lord, I am going to give it all to you, by faith." The Bible truly tells us, "Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us" (Ephesians 3:20). This is crystal clear, God is able to do EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY above all that we could ever ask or think, is an inexhaustible fullness of grace and mercy in God's love toward us. Whatever we may ask, or think, God is able to do it more abundantly, and exceedingly abundantly. So "letting go and letting God" should be our daily mantra. So, surrender it all to Jesus!
All to Jesus I surrender
All to Him I freely give
I will ever love and trust Him
In His presence daily live
All to Jesus I surrender
Humbly at His feet I bow
Worldly pleasures all forsaken
Take me, Jesus, take me now
I surrender all
I surrender all
All to Thee my blessed Savior
I surrender all
