The telephone was a remarkable invention. Created in 1870 by Alexander Graham Bell, it is a telecommunications device that permits two or more people to conduct a conversation. Today we have all types of devices for communicating.
It is amazing how far technology has come today, especially when it comes to a telephone. Some of us still have our land lines, most of us prefer the usage of our cellular phone, abbreviated cell phone, instead of our landline. I am one of those with both. I have had the same telephone number for over 40 years. I don’t want to get rid of it, because I don’t want to miss the opportunity of someone trying to reach me.
Jesus wants every opportunity to talk to us. He reminds us of this, all of the time. He practically begs us to reach out for him and to him. He wants us to pray and talk to him. He wants us to keep in touch with Him. He is good for us and to us. He helps us and builds us up. He wants a dialogue with us. He constantly reminds us that we can always talk to Him.
Just like you, that likes to talk to your best friend, God wants that same type of conversation. We can and should talk to Him about everything. God is omniscient anyway. He knows our most secret thoughts. “Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely” (Psalm 139:4).
We can’t hide anything from Him! We should bring everything to Him. One thing about Him, when we call upon Him, his line is never busy. Jesus is always available to us. We don’t need any man-made devices to reach Him. He has the “Ultimate” caller ID system. He knows who we are when we call. We don’t have to worry about being placed on hold. He doesn’t have a hold button on His “main line” and he doesn’t need a landline. He is the “main line” and we can call him at any time, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, any hour of the day, at any time. There is no inappropriate time for him.
His time is our time. Our time is his time. We can hit the redial button at any time and he will answer his line, all of the time. Matter-of-fact, His name and number should be listed as THE “Emergency Contact” number in our phone. He should be at the top of our contact list. His number should be marked as our “Favorite”.
He doesn’t practice call management with us. We don’t have to worry about our calls being screened or forwarded to a voice mail. We don’t have to worry about leaving a message on a recorded answering machine. Our calls will never be transferred to another available customer service agent, because He is “The Customer Service Agent”. There is no substitution for God, and there is no one else to take His place. He will never place a call block our telephone number, like we do to others. Our calls are always direct with a direct line to his “main line”. There will never be a party line. No one can ever listen to our conversation with him. When we tell it in secret he will keep the secret. If the secret gets out, it is because we leaked it.
So go ahead and call Jesus. He is waiting. Jesus is on the “main line, "JUST TELL HIM WHAT YOU WANT!
