The definition of a “prompter” is a person or thing that prompts. In a theatre, it is a person who prompts or cries out when someone forgets their lines.
Being a Christian is not easy. We are human and the human side is always at battle with the spiritual side. Even after we become a Christian, we still have that sin nature and it declares war on the Holy Spirit. The doxology of Jude 1:24-25 says, “Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy. To God our Savior, who alone is wise, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen.”
The audience to whom Jude wrote was susceptible to heresies and to temptations toward immoral living. He encouraged the believers to remain firm in their faith and trust in God’s promises for their future. This was important because they were living in a time of increased apostasy. We too, are living in the last days, much closer to the end than we think. We too, are tempted to give in to sin.
We are to keep ourselves in God’s love. God is the one that keeps us. Our righteousness does not come from ourselves, but from God. Our security comes from God, who is our Protector. We can only rely on His power, not our own.
We must train our ears to tuned into the insistent voice of God, and heed to His whispers, and obey His Word. Just like the “prompter” that assist those on the theatre stage, and those tele-prompters that assist the newscasters on television, Jesus is our “Prompter”. His eyes are on our script that He has written for us. He simply reminds us of His Words, for us to stay on track, on point, and on His script. When we fall down, stumble, or trip, He helps us to get up, because He is still “prompting” us. The “Prompter”, is quick and prompt to help us say the right things, and do the right things, at the right time. We just need to pay attention to the “Prompter," who is Jesus.
The only wise God, is able to keep us from falling. Literally, “He keeps us from falling. He is able to present us faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy.”
Our Savior, Jesus Christ, is able to keep us from the errors of our ways. Jesus is the “Prompter," we can trust that He is faithful, and able to keep His grip on us, by prompting us. Only with His help, can we live a holy life that God desires for us to live.
