THE SITUATION ROOM

In 1961, after the Bay of Pigs, JFK decided he needed a single space to coordinate action during crises. The Situation Room was born. The Situation Room is staffed around the clock in shifts with personnel pulled from the intelligence community. For these permanent staffers, there are three tiny offices and the Watch Floor, the communications center that monitors the world for the National Security Council.

Now that is the description for The Situation Room for the White House of the United States. There is another kind of SitRoom and it is a very important room. What is it you ask? Your Prayer Closet! Jesus has talked about our prayer life on many occasions. Jesus said, “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him” (Matthew 6:5-8).

Some people literally have set aside a room or a quiet place in their home for regular prayer time. That is absolutely wonderful! Your “situation room” or “prayer closet” might be a bench outside, or your kitchen table, or during your daily walk. Jesus usually went to a secluded hillside. The point that I am trying to make is, your “situation room” or “prayer closet” is any place where you can be alone, free from interruptions, distractions, and private.

The perfect “situation room” or “prayer closet," it is a secret place where you can be alone with God to share your deepest thoughts, hurts, feelings, secrets and so on. You can just release everything to him in that secret place. It is just between you and the Lord. It doesn’t have to be an actual closet. The point is, that you need to have a spot in your home or apartment where you know that you can be completely alone with God. When you get to that place, you can just talk to him and let it all out. There you can just cry your weeping eyes out. You can be completely honest with God. You can be open, as open as you want to or need to be.

Our “prayer closet” is a place of warfare and peace, struggle and satisfaction. It is a place of patience and action and where sorrow turns into joy and joy into celebration. This place does not have geographical restrictions. This place is not regulated by congress or approved by any executive orders. This place is not reserved for the wealthy or the poor. It is the place of prayer, where you deal with your own situations. This place is your “situation room”, thus, your “prayer closet”.

Your room, that secret place where you can rest in the shadow of the Almighty. God wants you to be able to come to Him in secret and share your heart with Him You can tell Him any and everything. He is the best confidant! He is always available, 24/7. No matter what you are dealing with, relationship problems, family drama, work, or whatever, you need to know that God is always there for you and that He loves you.

Your “situation room”, could be mobile, stationary or both, it doesn't matter. It is when and where you have a special place to talk and listen to God. You can go to your room with expectancy and surrender, hopefulness and acceptance, with a certainty that you will be in God’s presence. It is a place of ultimate victory and overwhelming assurance. You don’t need an appointment. Walk-Ins are always welcomed. It is your “situation room," this is your “prayer closet”. Just walk in! AMEN!
