THE SMALL STUFF

Does Jesus really care about the small things that happen in our lives? Absolutely!

God does care about the small and little things in our lives. He cares so much that He numbered the hairs on our head (Luke 12:7). Sometimes we think that God is too busy to think about our “small stuff”. I believe that He cares about every detail of our lives. Sometimes he shows us in subtle ways and sometimes he shows us with a huge statement.

God says that we should pray always and without ceasing. That’s praying for everything, and all things, about anything. He even tells us not to worry about nothing. Not to worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will take care of itself. But we do. We worry about being late; about meeting our deadlines; about our parents and our children; about the weather; and of course, about how we look, our appearances. God cares about our little desires and our small wants, and our needs. God is concerned about it all.

If it matters to us, it matters to Him. What about the wedding in Cana (John 2), where they ran out of wine, Jesus met that need. 1 Peter 5:7 invites us to cast ALL of our cares on Him, because He cares for us. He cares even when:

  • The baby won’t take a nap and you are absolutely exhausted.

  • You can’t find your car keys.

  • You are trying to go to sleep and it’s 2:00 a.m. and sleep is not forthcoming.

  • You are nervous about the results of a medical report.

  • Your dogs won’t stop barking (like my two dogs, now).

  • You said something embarrassing (Oops).

Jesus cares about everything that concerns us, whether its great or small. We just need to cast all of our cares, worries, concerns, and problems on him.

Please note, there is no such thing as a “little” or “small” sin. Sin is sin.

James 1:14-16 says, “But each one is tempted when he is carried away and enticed by his own lust. Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.”

Everything is in the small stuff and the small stuff does matter. The small things that we do for the kingdom building is important. Don’t worry about what others can do. Only worry about what you can do. When we have the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life, then make the difference. It is about kingdom building, and the small and little things matter here, too. Maybe you don’t have the funds to buy someone groceries, but you may be able to buy them a meal, even if it’s just a happy meal. Trust me, that meal can make someone happy. You may be saying that you don’t have any money to help someone. That’s okay, but maybe you can provide them with some type of service. Maybe, you can cut their grass, rake their leaves, run an errand for them, or go to pick up a prescription. If you are not able to provide some type of service, everyone is in need of prayer. Your prayer may be the one that moves God into action. Remember, we are all one in Christ. Any act of kindness and concern, shown to anyone, is acknowledging God.

When you look at a fine expensive automobile, it’s the details that matter, the small things. Those details set that auto apart from the others. The big things everyone notices. The small stuff is what most people fail to see. But, not with God. God sees everything and He never misses or ignores anything, especially the small or little things that concerns us.

Remember, it’s the little things that make a big difference!
