THE UN-CROWD

Updated: Feb 16, 2021

I know that you have heard the term “The In-crowd”. The “In-crowd” is a small group of people who are considered fashionable or important and who allow only very few people to join them.

There are all types of groups with the word “crowd” in them. There is the “Among the Crowd," “Out Crowd, “Stand out from the Crowd," Stand out in the Crowd," Go along with the Crowd," and lastly, “the Un-crowd.” The “Among the Crowd," are a group of people that are situated in the middle of a group. The “Out Crowd," are outsiders that usually dress weirdly and ready to have a conversation with anyone about anything. The “Stand out from the Crowd,” group usually think that they are clearly better than or noticeably different from ordinary people. “Stand out from the Crowd," wants to be very noticeable and different among a group of people, that are all very similar. The “Go along with the Crowd,” does what everyone else in the group is doing. This phrase often has a negative connotation, suggesting that the person is not an independent thinker or is easily swayed.

A prefix “Un," is a letter or a group of letters that we add to the beginning of a word. Prefixes change the meanings of words. “UN” is a prefix meaning not. It is used to give opposite and negative meanings to adjectives, adverbs, and nouns.

If you haven’t noticed, we live in a negative world. A world full of the “Un-crowd”. In these troubling and dark times, it is very easy to go from being positive to negative, from happy to sad, hopeful to sorrowful. Plus, we must make very sure we surround ourselves with positiveness. You can be grateful, helpful, kind, loving, ambitious and a motivated person and something can happen, like obstacles, disappointments, an economic shift, that will pull you into a negative force, thus becoming a member of the “un-crowd;” henceforth, becoming ungrateful, unhelpful, unkind, unloving, unambitious, and unmotivated. You got me, right?

If you allow negative attitudes (such as anxiety, envy, anger, bitterness, or pride) to grab hold of your mind, those attitudes will lead you to make negative decisions that will affect your life in a negative way. You may even become a member of the “UN-CROWD.” Or maybe you are already a member of the “Un-crowd," but if you can choose to develop and maintain a positive attitude, then your life will become positive. Even when you are faced with challenges and tragedies, you will be able to deal with them, when you choose to approach life with a positive attitude.

We are in the middle of an election year, add Covid-19, then add sickness, death, loss of jobs, back to school issues, and the pressures of this world, all of these things can rob you of your joy.

In Matthew 24:12, Jesus said, “And because iniquity shall abound the love of many shall wax cold.” Jesus was saying that negative things that are going on around us, but not necessarily in us, would cause the love of many to grow cold.

Change always surprises us, and when that change is negative then we are thrown into a crisis. How we react to it, could be a game-changer. Whatever happens, try not to react negatively. Please keep in mind that you can’t control anything. Ask God to give you the hope and faith to do what He wants you to do. Everything about God is holy and positive. As children of God, we should never be part of the “Un-crowd,” and do not associate with any member of the “Un-crowd.” Their negative energy will be contagious. Moving forward, each time you become aware of any negative thoughts or behavior, give it to God, in prayer and ask the Holy Spirit to renew your mind so that you can act and think the way He wants you to.

It’s okay to be “among the crowd", “in the middle of the crowd”, and to be part of the “In-crowd”, but being a member of the “un-crowd”, shouldn’t be acceptable. Remember, even Jesus was surrounded by crowds, and He was always in the middle of the crowd, but He was never a member of the “Un-crowd.”
