THE WORD OF GOD

Updated: Nov 9, 2023

When you open the Bible, it is the Word of God that line the pages. From Genesis to Revelation, the Word of God speaks to all who will take the time to read and pray for understanding. Ignorance of the Word of God can no longer be an excuse for not knowing the will of God. Scripture admonishes to, "Study to show thyself approved unto God" (2 Timothy 2:15a). By doing so we will present ourselves, "a workman that needeth not be ashamed rightly dividing the Word of truth" (2 Timothy 2:15b).

The Word of God speaks in the Old Testament as well as the New Testament. The Old Testament to some people, is seemingly confusing, yet it is just as profitable for learning as the New Testament. To understand the New Testament Word of God, one must have absolved the Old Testament to the extent that critical understanding will come alive as the Word takes hold.

The Word of God is only hidden to those who seek not the understanding of its doctrine. We must not forget that the Word of God teaches the basic truth that God speaks. Let's not forget in this age of materialism, we need to be reminded again and again that God has spoken and will continue to speak through the Holy Spirit. There is no new "Word." The God of yesterday, is still the God of today and will be the same God tomorrow. He has given us all we will ever need while we are on this side of heaven. It would behoove us to realize the seriousness of the situation before it is too late.

The Word of God towers like Mount Everest. It stands alone as God's will to His greatest creation, mankind. We are the lesser peaks that stands before it, being pulled upward by its mighty force.

The Word of God announces to us that God reveals Himself to us progressively. He is not an absentee deity caring nothing for His prize creation. He is a loving God who out of love and mercy is deeply involved with His creation and has set forth channels to directly communicate with them.

The book of Hebrews is an interesting book. First of all the author is unknown. Nevertheless, it is written with the purpose to confirm Jewish Christians by showing that the Old Testament Judaism had come to an end through the fulfillment by Christ. Although its theme is the, "Priesthood of Christ," it can be best interpreted as, " Christ is better than."

In the first three chapters, the author covers a variety of topics. There in the fourth chapter, he talks about, "The believers rest in a perfect work of redemption." In the twelfth verse, seemingly from nowhere the reader is introduced to "the Word of God," and he plainly states without reservation, "For the Word of God is living and active." Yes it is living because it is the Word of a living God. John's gospel clearly tells us, "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us" (John 1:14). It was the living Word that spoke, and heaven and earth were created. It was the living Word that said, "Let there be lights" (John 1:14). It is the living Word that holds creation together, and all the activities of God's accomplishments are what God has put into motion.

The living Word is powerful. We do not serve an energy-less God. There is so much action around us that the human eye is unable to see it. It's like the wind, you can't see it but God does let us feel it. The power of the living Word hold the universe in its place, and only those energies that it will allow come forth, will. The planets are so aligned that they remain in orbit without a threat of going off course. Scripture tells us, "For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates, even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart" (Hebrews 4:12).

In Psalms 139:23 David said, "Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me and know my thoughts." The Word is able to expose those little things that we try to hide and keep a secret. The Word convicts us when it must and finds us guilty when we pled innocent.

The Word of God, "is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Discerner speaks of the idea of living, analysis, and judgment. The Word is able to analyze you. It is able to slice and dice even your most inner parts and reveal who you are, but it doesn't stop there.

The heart is the center of the rational life of man. Yet and still, its our heart, although it's desperately wicked, that tells on us, because our hearts reveals our true self. Who knows our hearts? God! The Word is not lost in any of our transactions. Our thoughts sometimes becomes a runaway train that track to and fro in our minds. And let us not forget about, intent. It is the area of our desire and our motivation, the how and the why we do what we do.

The Word of God is living, all powerful, "sharper than any double-edge sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joint and marrow; it is a discerner of the thought and intents of the heart." So why do we continue to play games. All is not lost, there is a way out. Hebrews 4:14 states, "Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession."

By our confession, we are able to put the foolishness behind us. No more trying to hide what Jesus already knows. The living Word probes our deepest being and exposes us -bare. It uncovers us and there is nothing or nowhere we can hide under or behind.

Adam and Eve sinned and tried to hide, but they were uncovered. Every since these falls of mankind, we have been trying to hide, but we don't have to hide no more. Jesus already knows our inclination to fall and that is why He made the ultimate sacrifice for us. For those who are the children of God, "Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need" (Hebrews 4:16).

The Word is Jesus, and Jesus is alive and well. It is time to face the fact that your secrets and my secrets are not secrets at all to Jesus. It is time to seek the truth in our life. Excuses will not cut it. Scripture reminds us, "Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do" (Hebrews 4:13).

Your time, talent, and tenth are already manifested before the Lord. It is all laid bare and uncovered. I closed with these two words - Check yourself.
