WHO IS WAITING ON WHO?

Updated: Mar 27, 2023

WAITING! Waiting, and yet still waiting. We have to wait all the time. We have to wait for our food to be prepared. We have to wait in traffic. We have to wait for our test results. We have to wait on someone to return our telephone call. We have to wait in line at the grocery store. We have to wait for all sorts of things. We even have to wait until we fall asleep.

Sometimes we often think of "waiting" when we are waiting on God to answer our prayers, fulfill His promises, and awaiting a blessing of some kind. In our season of waiting we will often use the phrase, "I am waiting on God." Which usually means that we are waiting on Him to do something for us. What are we waiting on God to do for us? We are waiting on Him to avenge us, to lead us, to direct us, to provide for us, to heal us, to answer a prayer, to reveal His glory, to do only what God can do.

God's concept of time is not like ours. We as humans are creatures of time, because our lives revolves around time. God is the Creator of time. "With the Lord, a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day" (2 Peter 3:8). God's time is different from our time.

God has everything about our lives already planned. His timing is perfect. At the proper time, God has already determined that something will happen. He is never late nor is He ever too early. No one can rush Him to do anything before its time.

We are always saying that we are waiting on God, but do we ever think that maybe God is waiting on us? Isaiah 30:18 says, "And therefore the Lord [earnestly] waits [expecting, looking, and longing] to be gracious to you; and therefore He lifts Himself up, that He may have mercy on you and show loving-kindness to you. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are all those who [earnestly] wait for Him, who expect and look and long for Him [for His victory, His favor, His love, His peace, His joy, and His matchless, unbroken companionship]!"

Realizing the possibility that not only are we "waiting on God" - maybe God is waiting on us. The Lord earnestly waits for us "expecting, looking and longing to be gracious" to us. For those who earnestly wait for Him, who expect and look for Him. For what? For His victory, His favor, His love, His peace, His joy, and His matchless unbroken companionship. This is what we are waiting for in one form or another. Whatever we are waiting on God for, it can surely fall into that description.

We are waiting and God is waiting. He is waiting for us to get into the position for the outpouring of His blessings. God is waiting to bless us beyond our wildest dreams and expectations. He knows the issues of our hearts. Are you prepared to receive the blessings that you are longing for?

"Then you will call upon Me, and you will come and pray to Me, and I will hear and heed. Then you will seek Me, inquire for, and require Me [as a vital necessity] and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart" (Jeremiah 29:12-13). When? "...when you search for Me with all your heart."
