The definition of worth is excellence, usefulness or valve. Do you ever wonder about your worth? Do you ever feel that you are worthless?
According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a person or things worth is by definition, the value they have when measure by their qualities or the esteem in which they are held. But how do you measure qualities?
Measuring a person’s qualities is far more difficult than measuring a product. Can man actually measure another man’s qualities? How can you measure the quality of someone’s life? You can measure the quality of a service. You can measure someone’s performance. You can measure the quality of software, food, health care, etc.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), quality of life is defined as “the individual’s perception of their position if life in the context of the culture and value systems in which they live and in relational to their goals.”
So what decides someone’s worth? According to the self-worth theory, self-worth is determined mostly by our self-evaluated abilities and our performance in one or more activities that we deem valuable. However, people commonly use other yardsticks to measure their self-worth.
“But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out to us being justified by his grace, we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life” Titus 3:4-7.
The world bases your worth on appearances, possessions, and accomplishments. Our self-image should be based on the value that God places on us and it is Christ-centered. Our worth to Christ is measured beyond what we can dream or imagine. We are someone very valuable to God.
We are valuable because we were made in His image. Even before God created the universe, we were the focus of His love. “He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love” Ephesians 1:4.
Our worth has no limits in God’s eyes, we are priceless. We have been chosen by God for adoption as sons and daughters by Jesus Christ Himself. This adoption came at a very high price, the death of Jesus.
We have so much worth, as a child of God, who is loved by God and adopted into His family, we can be sure that God has a plan for our life.
So you never, ever have to guess about your worth. You should never have a false depreciation of yourself. Because we are children of God through Jesus Christ, we have worth.
Guess what? You were “worth” dying for! That makes you very valuable indeed. You were “WORTH” creating, saving, sanctifying, and glorifying. But we are WORTHLESS without Jesus.
So precious, priceless child of God, you are very valuable indeed. The WORTHY Lamb of God finds you worthy indeed.
