Sparrows are not rare birds, they are common birds. A sparrow is a little brown bird, and some of them are gray, white, and black. Sparrows live near humans and sings a pretty musical chirpy song. They can be spotted all over the world. They are as common as mice and rabbits. Sparrows are the most referenced birds in the Bible.
We often worry about our circumstances and problems, but in God’s eyes, are we not worth more than sparrows?
The song, “His Eye Is On The Sparrow”, is based on the sweet promise of Matthew 10:31. It is one of my “go-to” songs, when I am feeling troubled or sad. Verse one reads: “Why should I feel discouraged, Why should the shadows’ come, Why should my heart be lonely, And long for heaven and home, When Jesus is my portion? My constant Friend is He: His eye is on the sparrow, And I know He watches me.”
As common as sparrows are, God cares about them. He cares about caterpillars and ants too. He cares about all creatures, great and small. Now, if He cares about them, then He is “over-the-moon” about you and me.
We are His greatest creation. The ones that was made in His own image. The ones that His “only begotten son”, died for.
Even when we are struggling with life’s issues, He cares. When we are being tested, He cares. When we are doubtful, He cares. When we are lonely and lonesome, He cares. Even when we forget to pray and places Him on the back burner of our lives, He still cares. Through it all and IN it all, He cares. Through the storms and many battles, He cares. Through the impossible and unbelievable circumstances, He cares. The God of the sparrows and the grass in the fields, and the mountaintops, and the nation, knows us, and claims us as His own, His children.
We need not to ever worry or guess about our worth to our heavenly Father. He loves us more than anything. He sees us and everything that we do, from His, God’s eyesight. His eyes are always on the sparrow and that sparrow is me and YOU.
