CHARACTER

Updated: Feb 18, 2021

A person’s character is the sum of his or her deposition, thoughts, intentions, desires, and actions. It is the Lords’ purpose to develop character within us. Proverbs 17:3 says that, “The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests the heart.”

Godly character in the believer is the result of the Holy Spirit. Our character as a believer is a manifestation of Jesus. We are to set an example first, for the world to see; second, for other Christians; and third, in our homes. We are to have a reputation that is evident to who we represent. King David, Joseph, Ruth, Job, Apostle Paul, just to name a few, are Biblical warriors with great character.

They all are examples of people with good moral character. A person’s character is based on their overall or general tendencies. Everyone makes mistakes, and yes there will be some isolated instances that the carnal will surface.

King David was a man after God’s own heart, he had good character, although he sinned occasionally. We all have sinned, but we are not to practice sin. People with moral character will stand-out, because they will be known for their honesty, morality, ethics, and their love for people.

A lack of character is a sure sign of lack of morals. These people will be dishonest, unethical, and love will not be in their hearts. I know you have seen many of these types of people and so have I.

Character influences our choices in life, and good character will help us make Godly choices. But sometimes God will put trials in our lives to strengthen our character. This will help us to grow into His character.

During these trials, we will come to realize that God is our strength, and that will help us get through anything, regardless of how insurmountable it may appear to be.

The Lord will be our strength, to go on. When we are fearful, He tells us not to be afraid. He gives us the strength to go through this journey, because He has the ability to sustain us.

The Lord will be our strength, to move us forward. When our hearts lose courage, He constantly reminds us that we are to put our hopes in Him.

The Lord will be our strength, to climb upward. When we find it difficult to climb up those problematic and cumbersome roads.

The Lord is our strength, to be encouraged. He remembers us in our weakness and His love endures forever. We can trust Him and His word to enlighten us. The Lord is our strength, because, “For God had not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, love, and sound mind” 2 Timothy 1:7.

God’s strength has the power to consistently strengthen us as part of our relationship with Him. Even when we are weak, troubled, afraid, afflicted, depressed, wearied, burdened, wounded or whatever is confronting us. All we have to do is place our burdens on Him and He will help us get through this journey, called life.

“But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their strength in time of trouble.” Psalm 37:39
