CHURCH PEOPLE

Church people comes in all shapes and sizes. They all have different educational levels. Some are babes in Christ and some are matured Christians, but no two are on the same spiritual level.

Church people are a mixture of people with varying backgrounds, and social economic status. They have various interests and different levels of interests and expectations.

You have some that are serious about God and you can easily see their seriousness through their fruit of their labor. They have an increasing desire to grow in God, ministries to others, mature in their faith, build up the church, and spread the gospel.

Then you have the "Fake Christians." They go about doing the church thing, but their hearts are not into it. They are just "fakers." They go to church, not because they are save, it's just the social thing to do. Sometimes the mature Christian can detect the fakes ones and sometimes they can't, But God detects them every time.

It's not easy being a pastor. I know, because my late husband was one. It doesn't matter if your congregation is small or large, people make pastoring a difficult job. Moses was the pastor of "The First Baptist Church of the Wilderness." Poor Moses, just like most pastors, he had to deal with chronic complainers.

Moses had thousands of members. They were all Israelites, led out of Egypt. You would think that they would be in a rejoicing state most times, but oh no, they were grumblers, all right. What did they complain about? Many things and they were not happy with anything. They soon started wishing for the good old days back in Egypt. What good old days in Egypt? What an ungrateful bunch!

Today's church people grumbles and complain all of the time, too. What do they complain about? Anything and everything! They get a new pastor and before long, they start throwing the best pastor they ever had under the bus. God is not pleased with such behavior. The church is a sacred institution, set-up by God, for worshipping and praising God.

The church isn't the problem, it's the church people. Some people go to church like they are the main character in a Sunday morning production. They are not coming to seek Jesus. They come to church because they think that they are the star of the show and they need their accolades from other church people. The church is their stage, and they are ready for someone to shout, lights, camera, and action.

Some think that they are "eye candy" for the next few hours. Like the church needs them. They are not "eye candy" nor the main character in a Christian production. Jesus is the Main Character.

The church is about bringing people to Jesus and Jesus to the people. The church is really not a building, but a body of believers with a specific nature and purpose. The biblical role or ministries of the church, and its purpose, is the foundation of worship, edification and evangelism. The worship is God-centered and Christ-centered. The church, is not about entertaining church people, but about expressing our love by worshipping and praising our Creator. We are to praise and glorify God.

So don't just be a "church person," but be part of the church. The Christian church is not a building, but a body of believers united in Christ. Its role is to worship God, nurture and edify, and reach out to a mercy and loving God.
