A flower is a special part of the plant. Flowers are also called the bloom or blossom of a plant. Flowers have petals. Inside the part of the flower that has petals are the parts which produce pollen and seeds. In all plants, a flower is usually its most colorful part.
According to Phys.org, botanists around the world have been collecting, naming, and classifying plants for centuries, and as a result many plants have inadvertently been named several times, giving rise to a list of over one million flowering plant species. Some plants were given different names because of slight differences when grown in different climates, while others were named by scientists unaware the plant had already been described and named.
Flowers are a universal language around the world, attributing special meanings to the way they are given, arranged, and displayed.
The rose is probably the most famous flower. It's beauty has attained significance around the world and is often used to symbolize love, affection, and beauty. Their range of blooms is as small as a fingernail, and can have huge blooms, like a Grandiflora. There are thousands of different types of roses available in many rich and colors and fragrances.
The lily is a tall, majestic, and striking shaped flower. Like roses, lilies are important across cultures and is known for their beauty and resilience.
Tulips are closely related to the lily and has a long history. Tulips have been seen as a symbol of wealth and abundance through the ages.
Carnations, whose scientific name is dianthus. The humble dianthus is one of my favorite flowers and I plant them annually.
In the Bible, flowers are often used as symbols for beauty, growth, temporal things, fullness, and more. God created flowers to bring beauty to the earth and pleasure to us. Each flower is unique. Like flowers, each of us is unique in so many ways.
We are like flowers in God's beautiful garden. We all are significant in God's garden and no one is more important than the other. There are so many types of flowers in God's garden. There are Mums, Hydrangeas, Orchids, Impatiens, Forget-me-nots, Roses, Lilies, Dianthus, Lantanas, and many more. Which one are you?
We are all different with a particular purpose. We are all called to fulfill a specific calling for what God has created us to do and be. God is our Gardner. He waters, protects, and cares for His garden. God carefully tends to us and He makes sure that we stay healthy and produce fruit. To accomplish this, God has to cut off every branch that doesn't produce fruit. While we are in God's garden, we will be pruned, as God enhance our spiritual growth. Believe it or not, pruning is not a punishment to us, but it is a reward. We will have to push through some difficult and challenging conditions, while in the garden. Some of our blooms will get worn out in the heated battle.
While in the garden, some flowers will bruise very easily, like Orchids and Gardenias. Some flowers will bloom early, like Snowdrops, Crocus, Violets and Lenten. Some flowers are very delicate, like Petunias and Buttercups. Some flowers will bloom late, like Asters and Mums. Some flowers are subtle and quiet like Forget-me-nots, but they will do what they were created to do. Then there will be flowers that may not never get noticed, they are just there to enhance the other flowers, like Baby's Breaths and Green Ferns.
So whatever flower that God has created you to be, as Christians, God wants us to cultivate and grow His heart flowers. Do you know what heart flowers are? Heart flowers are love, hope, faith, joy, and peace. We are the representatives of God's beautiful garden and we are not supposed to just keep to ourselves. Our sweet smelling aroma, our beautiful flowering blossoms, are to be used for the benefit of God, to be displayed unto the world. Just like a flower bouquet is displayed. Each bouquet is uniquely arranged with multiple flowers with the contrast of bright and soft colors. Some flowers will be long and some are short. Some flowers will be big and some will be small. But each flower represents and adds to God's beautiful bouquet. You are part of this bouquet of flowers! Look at how beautiful you are!
"Look at the lilies and how they grow. They don't work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow he will certainly care for you..." (Luke 12:27-28)
