The Name of God, "Jehovah Chereb." It means, "The Lord of the Sword."
"Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the Lord, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! And thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places" Deuteronomy 33:29.
Have you ever thought of God as a Sword? Merriam-Webster defines a sword as a weapon (such as a cutlass or rapier) with a long blade for cutting or thrusting that is often used a symbol of honor or authority. In other words a sword is used as a weapon for violence, vengeance and wrath.
Our God can destroy and protect. The Hebrew root for sword is charab (chereb) and it means to make desolate, destroy, dry up. In Deuteronomy 33:29, the sword is a sword of gaavah; glory, triumph, excellency, and majesty.
