I was talking to my friend the other day and she was very upset about a situation that had happen with a family member. Someone had done something “cutthroat” to someone else. After they did the deed, they had the nerves, to gather around that person and started smiling in their face. She was amazed how could you set someone up for failure, then turn around and act like they were friends.
She kept saying over and over again, “those low-down smiling faces." How cruel could someone be? I thought about an old school song, that is still so relevant today, “Smiling Faces”, by The Undisputed Truth. Below is an abbreviated version of the lyrics from this song:
SMILING FACES SOMETIMES
PRETEND TO BE YOUR FRIEND
SMILING FACES SHOW NO TRACES
OF THE EVIL THAT LURKS WITHIN (CAN YOU DIG IT)
SMILING FACES, SMILING FACES, SOMETIMES
THEY DON’T TELL THE TRUTH
SMILING FACES, SMILING FACES TELL LIES AND I GOT PROOF
OH, OH, YEAH
You know good friends and good people are few and far between. They are a blessing from God. Friends do make mistakes and no one is perfect. The difference between a good friend, who happened to do something you didn’t like, and a fake friend, is that a good friend does not keep on doing bad things to you nor continue to throw you “under the bus.”
From my personal experience, many fake people don’t even understand or know that they are fake. They are usually selfish and they are always putting people down, but they don’t think that they are fake.
Fake friends are two faced. They will SMILE in your face then slander you behind your back. Beware of the Smiling Faces. Psalm 55:21 says, “His words are as smooth as butter, but in his heart is war.” Proverbs 26:23-25 says, “Smooth words may hide a wicked heart, just as a pretty glaze covers a clay pot.” Some people may cover their hatred with pleasant words, but they are deceiving you. They pretend to be kind, but don’t believe them. Their hearts are full of many evil things.
God reminds us over and over again about these "smiling faces" people. All they do is skin and grin in your face. They can’t be trusted and they are just backstabbers.
There is one person that will never betray you. He will not grin in your face and talk about you behind your back. He isn’t two-faced. Oh no!
Jesus is a friend who will never leave you through the ups and downs of this world. We have a true friend in Jesus and oh what a friend. He is the best, BEST Friend ever. He will be your friend until the end. “No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you” John 15:15.
