There is a TV series that is featured on CBS All Access, it is called The Good Fight. This series is a spin-off and sequel to The Good Wife.
The intro to this series is as follows, a year after the series finale of The Good Wife, an enormous financial scam destroys the reputation of a young lawyer and wipes out the savings of her mentor. The two are forced out of their legal firm and join a prestigious African American owned firm.
The show deals with and contains considerable political and social issues, including Trump-era politics and the actions of his administration.
What is the “good fight” and how do we fight for it? “Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness. Fight the good fight for the true faith” 1 Timothy 6:11-12.
Apostle Timothy’s life was in a state of warfare. He became Apostle Paul’s protege. As a young minister, Timothy faced all sorts of pressures, conflicts, and challenges from the church and his surrounding culture. He had many enemies to engage with, including our arch-enemy number one, Satan, and his principalities and powers. There were sins of the flesh, the world, and the people who wanted to keep the law. Timothy had to endure a great fight of afflictions, and also deal with false teachers, whom he was to fight the “good fight” of faith, because they wanted to resist the truth of the Gospel.
This fight is called “the fight of faith," because it was in opposition to the law. To fight the “good fight” of faith means that we abide in the word of faith, regardless of what we feel or what we think we understand.
To fight the “good fight” of faith means that we stand firmly anchored in the Word and in the power of the Spirit. We have to die to ourselves and not allow sin to rule our body, by obeying its lusts. We have to do what Jesus says, “Take up our cross daily and deny ourselves” Luke 9:23.
Let us “fight the good fight” and choose to hear and abide by sound doctrine and sound faith. Those who want to be faithful to the truth, will live a life in the virtues of Christ. We know that straight is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leads us unto life and only a few will find it. The narrow road means to stand strong for Christ. It is not always easy, but it is right and blessed by God. Consider the journey and choose the way of the Lord. The requirement for entrance is faith in Jesus.
