FOR THE LOVE OF MONEY!

Money is a medium of exchange. It allows people to obtain what they need to live. Like gold and other precious metals, money has its worth because for most people it represents something valuable.

Money makes the world go around. Economies rely on the exchange of money for products and services. The value of money is decided by its purchasing power. Money is valuable because we want it, but we want it because it can get us what we want.

You have heard the phrase, “for the love of money is the root of evil.” This phrase is misquoted. “For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it has wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs” 1 Timothy 6:10.

The Bible did not say that money is the root of all evil, but “the love of money” is. Money is mentioned over 800 times in the Bible. Money and possessions are the second most referenced topic in the Bible.

Most people still believe that money brings about happiness. Our society is in love with money and the things that money can buy. Rich people crave greater riches. Poor people will almost kill for it. Some people have sold their souls for it. Some people worship money. They are all about the “benjamins," “the mean green,” the “almighty dollar.”

There is nothing almighty about the dollar. Only God is “almighty,” not the dollar. You can’t have a love for money and love Jesus. That cannot exist. We are to love God with all of our hearts, with all our souls, with all our minds, and with all our strength. We are to love our neighbors as ourselves.

When you love money, your desires are on the money. It means that your emotions are attached to money. The affection of your heart is centered on money, its power, its security, and you are trusting in it.

You can’t love Jesus and money also. Money in and of itself is not evil, but worshipping it is. When we worship God, we are truly blessed. Loving Jesus means that you wake up every day with a commitment to live your life to satisfy Him. Your emotions are centered on Him. You know that you can trust Him to comfort you, lead you, guide you, sustain you, and to provide for you. You know that God will fill you with His power, and give you His peace.

No, there is nothing “mighty” about the dollar, but we worship and praise a “Mighty God” who is “ALMIGHTY”.
