I saw that old traveling man looking all weary, worn, and tired. I saw that old traveling man that thought he would never have made the journey. I saw that old traveling man that looked as though he had shed a lot of tears. I saw that old traveling man that looked like he had been through many wilderness experiences. I saw that traveling man that looked like he had carried some burdens too long. I saw that old traveling man that when he got to glory simply said, the worst was, I was a tired traveler traveling this journey of life, but what a joyful and sweet welcome home.
We are just travelers in this world, trying to reach our final destination. As we travel, there will be many trials and tribulations. In every direction you will be pulled and pushed. There will be unspeakable unrest. We will weep many tears. There will be many doors closed in our faces. There will be barriers to pass and many rough roads of sorrow to travel. There will be situations that we will have to thread through troubling waters. We will have to wait for the gate of opportunity to present itself to us. There will be mountains of difficulties to climb. There will be many roads that will appear too rocky to thread. There will be situations that will seem impossible to handle.
These are just some roads, we as travelers must take to move forward and onward. We are just traveling and it’s with a purpose. Believe it or not, difficulties bring us energy and perseverance. It brings out the strongest qualities in us.
Some illustrious characters in the Bible were travelers just like you and I. Abraham wasn’t dubbed “the father of faith” just because, but because he suffered much affliction. Jacob was a great traveler. He suffered severed afflictions. Joseph was bruised and beaten and sold into slavery and went to prison. King David was hunted and bruised, as he traveled his life’s journey. Apostle Paul was jailed, bruised and whipped. Jesus himself had a weary cumbersome road traveled.
As a traveler in this old evil world, we will be bruised, maybe not physically, but mentally. We will have to undergo some sufferings. Through every unpredictable situation, through all disappointments, delays, and disruptions, we can always cling confidently to the faithfulness of God. This life’s journey is not easy and never will be, but we know that we must keep our eyes on the prize, Jesus Christ. We know that when we arrive on the other side, oh what a time, what a time!
We are just travelers, just traveling, just abiding our time waiting to get to our heavenly home.
