THE WAVE

Updated: Feb 17, 2021

The first recorded WAVE occurred in Oakland at an Athletics’s playoff game against the New York Yankees on October 15, 1981.

It was organized and led by professional cheerleader Krazy George Henderson and was seen by a national TV audience and captured on film. From there The Wave spread into every stadium, park and arena across the globe, Over thirty-nine years later, it is still alive.

I love doing the “wave” and it is so much fun. It is the togetherness that I love to experience. We don’t have to limit the “wave” to just ball games and stadiums. We can experience togetherness and happiness while spreading the gospel. The “good news” about Jesus should unite Christians everywhere around the world, in praise and in hope.

May I say, “The Wave," the original “wave” started with Jesus over 2,000 years ago in Jerusalem. The Wave is spreading the “good news” of Jesus Christ. In Mark 16:15, the scripture says, “And he said to them, Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.” In Acts 5:43 , “And every day in the temple and at home they did not cease to teach and proclaim Jesus as the Messiah.”

It is not left up to ministers and pastors to bring the Word of God to people. We all are called to proclaim this “good news” of God in Christ. The spread of the “good news” should be as contagious and free flowing as doing “the wave.”

It’s not just a once in a while thing to do, we are called to proclaim the “good news”, day after day, and without ceasing.

The life, death and resurrection of Jesus is not just a simple story in the Bible. It is a story of the Truth, that brings us life. We are to share with others about who God is, and how He is working in our lives. His story, shapes our story. We don’t have a story without His story. His story is the fiber and fabric of our life.

Apostle Paul puts it so beautifully, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes…” (Romans 1:16). Paul was not ashamed because his message was the Good News. It was powerful, it was for everyone, and it was part of God’s revealed plan.

Jesus told his disciples to “go into all the world” telling everyone that he paid the penalty for sin and that those who believe in him can be forgiven and live eternally with God. Christians today are living in all parts of the world, telling this “good news” to people. The driving power that carries missionaries around the world and sets Christ’s church in motion, is the faith that comes from God through Christ.

As Christians, we are part of “the wave” in Jesus, as we spread His Word and share His story. Let’s continue “the wave”, spreading the “good news”, as we represent Jesus.
