WHAT IS YOUR MINDSET?

Updated: Feb 16, 2021

In decision theory and general systems theory, a mindset is a set of assumptions, methods, or notions held by one or more people. A mindset can also be seem as arising out of person’s world view or philosophy of life. Attitude, belief, frame of mind, mentality, mental state, and perspective are synonyms of mindset.

Have you ever heard the saying, “I got out of the wrong side of the bed?" This expression is typically used to describe a grumpy or irritable person, especially when the reason for their unhappiness is unknown. They wake up in a bad mood and that bad mood lasts all day long. For some people, they are always in a bad mood. This phrase is dated back to Ancient Rome, where it was considered bad luck to get out of bed from the left side, which itself originated in a very old superstition saying that everything related to the left-hand side was unlucky. This is an example of a mindset.

We all have opinions and we all have thoughts. That’s so amazing and that is why God gave you your mind to use it. The imagination of man is like a canvas. What you imagine is painted on the canvas of your mind. Now once that picture is painted in our minds, we start believing those thoughts. Then we speak on those thoughts. Then we act on those thoughts. Then we change, whether for good or bad, for right or wrong. “Colossians 3:2 says, “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” You must understand who you are and whose you are. Your mindset could be your friend or your enemy.

God wants His children to focus on Him and not the things of this world. We are just traveling through, this isn't our home, and this is not our permanent residence. This gives us a different perspective about our lives here on earth. To set our minds on things above is to let the things of heaven fill our thoughts and we should look at life from God’s perspective.

If we renew our minds and thoughts toward the things of God, we can change our world in which we live in, because changing our mindset can change our circumstances. Our minds are powerful, because it has the power to bring life or to bring destruction. You know what? Everything starts with a thought.

You can determine how you live and you can change your mindset. We can keep things in its proper perspective, on the world and material things, by looking at what the Bible says about the Christian mindset. This way, the more we focus on Jesus, we will see the life around us as God sees it.

Our daily objective should be to obtain and put into practice the mindset of Christ with the help of the Holy Spirit.
