Have you ever heard the phrase, "It's not what you know, but who you know?" In our world, it appears that the prescription for success in business is not a person's skills, talents, or brain, but to many, being in the right place at the right time and saying the right things to the right people.
What a contradiction to my upbringing which was, if you work hard and keep your nose clean, was the formula for success and upward mobility.
The world believes that to get far in life, it's who you know. You need the right contacts, with clout to make it to the top. You need to run with the right people, with clout, to be successful.
I say that there is a lot of truth to that. There is ONE who has all the clout you will ever need, His name is Jesus. He is the perfect contact with all the right contacts and He has all of the clout. Only the successful crowds hangs out with Him. You never have to do anything unethical or immoral to move up in the world. He keeps it real and is surrounded by stand-up, moral, and ethical people.
In this world we will run into people who are immoral, with impure hearts, but Jesus teaches us to respect ourselves and others. Yes, it may mean that we won't run with the popular and successful people in this world. We may, at plenty of times get passed over for promotion or a raise, but knowing who we are in Christ, is priceless. When we reach our heavenly home, we will have so much to look forward to. There is no comparison to the temporary rewards and accolades, that we may desire down here, compared to our heavenly rewards.
Yes, I must agree, it's really, "who you know" alright, and praise be to God that you know Jesus.
